What's different about a Marriage and Family Therapist

LMFTs have earned a master's degree in Marriage and Family therapy and are specifically trained from a systemic lens. Because all individuals are interconnected with systems, some within their control and others, not so much, LMFTs are uniquely trained to look within and beyond. Think couples, siblings, families, faith, culture, and career relationships. As a licensed marriage and family therapist from a COAMFTE accredited program, I earned over 500 individual and relational clinical hours in my graduate program and have since accumulated an additional 1380 relational clinical hours with over 220 hours of direct supervision to become fully licensed in South Carolina.

What kind of investment am I making?

Therapy is an investment in what matters most. Maybe you're an individual who is feeling stuck from life transitions; maybe your marriage has taken an unexpected turn and you're trying to figure out what to do next; maybe your young child is struggling with big feelings and behaviors that are resulting in trouble at school; maybe you're a terrified parent frantically searching for someone to help your teen contemplating or engaging in self harm. I am here for you.

It was presented to me in my own journey to healing that a quick peek into my financial habits would reveal part of my story. Can we talk straight here for a minute? A simple Google search reveals that the average divorce in the US costs between 15k-20k. And rehab? My desire is not to scare you, but to educate you. All behavior is a form of communication, and unhealthy patterns of behavior are often early  warning signs. Individuals have resources and choices. Therapy is a resource, a choice, and an investment in the hope of a brighter tomorrow.

Do you take insurance?

BFt does not take insurance for couples or family therapy. These services with BFt are an out-of-pocket expense and cost varies depending on the type of service. I can provide a super-bill that you may be able to file with your insurance. However, it is the client's responsibility, before starting therapy, to determine whether your insurance will provide coverage for your circumstances.

What about Headway? (updated June 3, 2026)

Headway is a network of 70,000+ therapists that increases access for individuals seeking therapy services through their insurance. I have recently joined this platform and am able to now offer individual sessions for clients who carry a medical diagnosis. I am now accepting new patients who are covered with Aetna and Cigna providers.
